Wind
June-July-August-September-October-November-January-February-March-April-May
I have documented the direction, force, and optics of wind movement by recording it as a series of etchings. I created these recordings in Long Beach, California and the documentation process lasted for a full year, covering all 11 months and all four seasons. My interest in this project stems from the movement and settlement of pollutants that are carried by the wind, as well as the transport of organic matter and debris through these systems of movement across the globe.
As the wind blows across the surface of the lightly dusted plates, it pushes the rosin to shift and settle in patterns and marks. Each plate is left outside for one hour to be exposed to the elements, and then heated to preserve these marks, capturing that moment in time. The resulting images show the small pieces of dirt that have rolled and collected on the surface, leaves that have been blown down from the trees, and humidity in the air that causes the rosin to be slightly sticky. The results, subtle variations in each plate, often strange enough to resemble a night sky or markings on skin.
