Shade on Pacific
These drawings are created through a multi-step process. First, cell phone images are manipulated and then drawn using a digital pen plotting tool and various colored pencils. The images are drawn in multiple layers to create each complete drawing.
Each photograph taken with a cell phone is a record of the trees that have been planted along the sidewalks of Pacific Avenue in Long Beach, California. These trees are cared for by the city.
The documentation of Pacific Avenue allows for the exploration of tree shade accessibility across various neighborhoods within Long Beach, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure areas. By focusing on a single street, the project aims to provide insight into the availability of tree shade in urban settings and how it may vary among different communities within the city.
